Loft Reveal!

I have a confession to make... The loft that I'm about to show you? It may or may not have been one of the first rooms completed in our house and I'm just now posting something about it two years later... Oops! What really makes this lateness ironic?

IT'S MY FAVORITE ROOM IN THE WHOLE HOUSE. :) Not necessarily renovation wise, but comfort / cozy / could-sit-there-and-read-all-night wise-- it's totes magotes my fav. :):)

The only thing you need to know about the loft before I begin is that it also holds my desk. If at all possible, wherever Dan and I live must must MUST include two things: a quality yard for Dan to landscape (he loves it) and an area for me to have a desk. My desk is my happy place. It's where I write! And read. And dream. And spend a ridiculous amount of my time.

My desk is my little corner of sacred space. May I share it with you?

Here's the before pictures:

I know what you're thinking: "The crap is that light fixture?"
Shhh... just ignore it and maybe it will go away...

Nothing too out of the ordinary. Quite "plain Jane" actually.

In honor of the loft being one of the first rooms we re-did, we didn't bother to unpack anything we had moved and were going to put in the loft until after it was completed. This resulted in the following:

How's that for keeping it real? :)

And, as usual, here I am trying to multi-task while painting and... Without fail... There's an empty M&M wrapper near me... Typical.

So here's the final result!!

Baaaaahh so comfy and cozy and I want to sit here forever!!

And that narsty light fixture is gone. :) We bought this replacement at Habitat (of course) for just $40 and it still had all the packaging.

Also, I hope you fall in love with these curtains as much as I have. The detailing is just gorgeous! We bought them at IKEA-- two panels for $20. Seriously, if you need cheap curtains, go to IKEA. It'll quickly become your new curtain BFF.

Ready to see my desk? Ready to see my desk? Ready to see my desk?
(Can you tell I'm just a little excited? I feel like I'm inviting you into my happy place. Oh, hello! I'm so thankful you're here.) :)

Detail time?

Detail time!

We bought this rope ladder from an old antique shop. At one point, it was actually attached to a ship! That just makes me a little more obsessed with it. :)

I had so so so (so so!) many mason jars left over from our wedding. I love them, so I don't mind, but I have found sneaky little ways to use them for storage all over the house. Like this:  I took a key rack, some twine, and viola! Mason jar paint brush and pencil holder. (Yes, I still use pencils. Mostly for the sound-- you just can't beat the sound of a pencil on paper!) :)

I keep my office supplies in spice jars. My mama gave me this idea.

The next idea? I don't know who I stole it from... I was in the house of a friend of a friend and she had done this with a picture frame above her desk. I LOVED it! And copied the idea. I did this in college as well as our apartment... And now I'm failing to give credit where credit it due. Sorry, mystery girl! You had an awesome idea!

So that's our loft! I hope you feel like snuggling down with a good book and a cup of coffee. If you didn't notice, there are lots of pillows everywhere. I like to throw them all on the ground and make a giant, plush, napping area. Come over sometime-- I'll take you up here and we can chat about all the lovely things we've seen. :)

My next post is going to be of another "doosy". Another project that took us for-freaking-ever, and a lot of the work was super demanding and required a ton of research, messing up, and faith. But I'm so excited to share it with you!! It's our upstairs guest bath. :) Here's a little sneak peek!

I'm sure there's a place in your own house that you adore as much as my little corner desk. I'd love to hear about it!
Stay beautiful, lovely friends! :)

  1. Carrie,
Your little loft is so adorable and looks so cozy! I absolutely love the rope ladder and the colors! I don't blame you for wanting to spend all your time up there! I hope one day I will have a cozy little space as cute as yours! (Also, I love IKEA and now I'll have to go to get some curtains!) ;)
    Thanks for sharing!
    Best,
