I Meant To Paint It White...

On the virtual world, it's so easy to make life look wonderful and beautiful and perfect all the time. And I think, especially for women, this can be really hard on our hearts sometimes. It's already difficult enough not to struggle with envy against our sisters-- we don't need false 'perfection' tricking us to envy even more.

So in honor of proving my life is anything but perfect, let me show you the latest thing that I horribly screwed up. :)

Remember that lovely little gray paint I used in Tiny Bathroom? It's barely gray at all. In fact, it looks white at first until you really begin to examine it. Now imagine a bright and sunshiny morning, where everything in your big-window kitchen has a gleam of gold in it due to the light. And you smile and sigh and kiss your husband goodbye as he leaves to teach summer school. And then you put on your 'painting clothes', finish a creamy cup of coffee, put a sermon on in the background, and begin getting to work painting the trim in the kitchen. The room is so bright and glorious that when you accidentally pull out a can of slightly gray paint, it looks vividly white. And your mood is so carelessly carefree that you don't bother to double check. You've painted the trim in several rooms by now. You know what you're doing.

Halfway through the projects clouds begin to appear in the sky. But you don't notice yet. Your life is still happy-go-lucky, nothing is wrong, the world is beautiful and my troubles are gone.

La dee freakin da.

You continue working, hard, proud of your diligent effort, when suddenly the clouds outside increase and fold themselves over the sun, casting devious shadows everywhere about the room. And instantaneously, you shiver. You look around and begin pleading with your mind, No no no, you're seeing things! It isn't true, it isn't.

But it is. The darkness reveals the damage that's been done-- you've painted the trim the wrong color.

La dee freakin holy-crap-I'm-going-to-shoot-myself-in-the-foot-Come-On-Carrie-what's-wrong-with-you?-oommgg-a;alksdfja;sldfkjads;fjk--askldfja;sdflkh!!!!!!

.....Is how you feel.....

The renovation posts that I write are always the ones with the highest views. I'm so thankful that ya'll are following along with us on this adventure, but please know, friends, that it's not always perfect. We're not always perfect. Not even close. We mess up all the time, in renovation projects and life in general, and that's why we need a Savior who didn't mess up, a perfect and spotless King, to come and take our place.

Forgiveness can pulse through even the darkest clouds, cover up even the deepest damage, and cause the sun to shine again.

Is there anything in your life that you've painted gray? I've been there, too. Worry not, Beloved. The Lord can make anything white again. :):)
