Tiny Bathroom Reveal!!

It's finally finished!! (And I may have a new favorite room in our house...) Our tiny half-bathroom! (Or as we like to dub it, Tiny Bathroom, but it must be sung like Elton John's song Tiny Dancer... We're weird).

Being that this room is so very very very very very tiny, we didn't think it would take long to refinish at all. Note to all DIYers: bathrooms, especially when putting in news sinks and toilets, will ALWAYS take a long time. Lesson learned...

So here's how our itsy bitsy bathroom journey began. Everything in the room was some form of orange. The sink and toilet: brownish-gold. The fixtures: gold. The trim: beige. The floor: beige. The walls: bright like a big ripe orange, orange! Walking into this room was like walking into a giant tangerine. Behold the madness:

I know what you're thinking-- "At least you always looked tan in that mirror!" This is true, but I can always go to the dark-chocolate-brown-bathroom upstairs for that... (Another project for another day).

We began Tiny Bathroom's redo by ripping out everything (aahhh felt so good!) and working to refinish the floor. Ok, really Dan refinished the floor while I made lots of cups of coffee. But he did teach me along the way so that when we do the kitchen floor this summer... and the coffee pot gets stored in another room for a while... I'll be busting out the sander myself.

After everything was ripped out.

Here's what I wanted from this room: something that was easy for re-sell but still had some characteristic that was very 'us'. So I chose a very very light grey wall color for easy sell back, and then added the nautical accent wall on the back to give a little bit of character and charm. You can see a tutorial of how to get really easy, super straight lines in my post here.

You'll have to excuse the picture quality of the finished room. It's SO tiny, I couldn't get a good angle anywhere. And since it's so bright in such a small space, my light fixture would vanish every time I snapped a shot.

But here it is!!

Here's the final cost breakdown of this entire room:

Floor sander: borrowed.

Poly-Urethane: $30 (with lots saved for the kitchen!)
Trim paint: already had from previous rooms
Wall paint: $25
Navy paint: $4, discounted
Sink, Toilet, and Faucet together: $42 (THANK YOU Habitat for Humanity!!)
Mirror: from my mother's basement, then painted with trim paint
Towel holder: $5, Habitat...
Toilet paper holder: $1.50, major Lowe's clearance...
Little green soap pump!: $2, Lowe's "Christmas" clearance
Light fixture: $25
Globes for light: $1 each, Habitat again
Ship wheel: $5, antique shop
Green frame: already owned

For a grand total of: $142.50. Not bad at all, huh? I'm thinking we'll definitely make that back on this room when we sell. I would easily pay $142.50 to never again walk into another bright orange room! :):)

We've done a few other rooms as well that I neglected to post, so I promise I will do those within the next few weeks. Sorry, far away living family! You'll see our house soon!

Gosh, I love getting to write posts like this because I feel so so blessed that we are able to live here right now and fix up this house and redeem it. You would never believe the budget we live on by looking at our home, and I think that's such a lovely little piece of grace that the Lord is showering us with. Every day I wake up in this house, I'm again awed at what I don't deserve and what God has graciously given. :)

Thank you so much to all the wonderful people who take time out of their day to read this blog. Your words of encouragement and inspiration are SO appreciated. I love ya'll!!
